The Artist

Welcome to my web page! I live in the gently rolling hills of Manchester, MI. Divorced and mother of 4 adult boys, I was looking for something creative to do. In 1971 I took my first ceramics class at Jackson Community College. I drove a 1966 Volkswagon beetle, I loved clay, & I still do! I took a few more classes at Kalamazoo Community College and Pewabic Pottery in Detroit. Fast forward to 1996; I met my current boyfriend, David W. Nelson, who just happend to be a potter. We did art fairs together for several years before I saw my first lampworked bead (thank you Faith Wickey!). I took a 12 week lampworking workshop at U of M Dearborn, bought my equipment, and started making beads. That was 9 years ago. Today I love the whole challenge of beadmaking. My work is ever changing. Beadmaking can become boring quickly, so new designs happen frequently. I must say I’ve felt very rushed at the torch lately, the fair season becomes exhausting for me by September. Enter quiet time; when shows subside in November, I can relax and play with new designs, which I’m very much looking forward to. It’s going to be an exciting year to make beads, there is so much information now for beadmakers and lots of fun new colors of glass. I am thinking of teaching some classes in November, I’ll keep you posted! Please drop me a line if you’d like.
